You know that your freight blog posts need to be a certain length. But did you also know that they should be formatted a certain way? If you aren’t practicing proper formatting techniques, you’re losing readers.

Use Headers and Subheaders

Headers and subheaders break up walls of text into readable and digestible chunks. This makes it look more manageable to the reader. They also help readers skip to the part of the text that has the information they’re looking for.

Your main headers should be H2. Be sure to make them keyword-rich. This will help search engines to know what the article is about. This will help more readers find your work.

If a block of text under an H2 header starts to get long, then consider breaking it up with H3 headers. These smaller headers will help keep everything organized.

Reduce the Width of Your Freight Blog

Have you ever tried to read very wide text? You start on the left and work your way right. But by the time you get to the right side, you’ve lost where you were on the left side. This causes you to hunt around every time you move to the next line. This is both tedious and frustrating.

Keeping your posts narrow makes it easier for the reader to keep their place. If you want to get technical, stick to around 80 characters wide. But this isn’t a hard rule.

To make your posts narrow, try adding a side column. This is an easy way to narrow your posts and provide a place for easily accessed information.

Images Are a Must

All of your blog posts must include images. At a minimum, you should have one. But more is always better. People are lazy; they much prefer looking at pretty pictures than reading text.

Not all images are created equal. Using authentic pictures that are of your actual employees has a 95% higher conversion rate than using generic stock photography. But it should be noted that your own pictures need to be professional quality; otherwise, they won’t be effective.

If you use stock photography, choose images that add value, and are directly related to your post.

Visualize the Data

It’s one thing to mention dollar amounts, percentages, and totals in your blog posts. But it’s hard for people to conceptualize the number. You can help your readers by providing a visual representation of the data you’re discussing. Don’t be afraid to use charts and graphs.

Make Lists

If you can create a list out of the information, then do it. Not only will this visually break up the text, but it’ll be easier to digest for the reader. Most people will skim your post, so a list ensures they get the most important information.

Shorten the paragraphs
